As the exclusive hotel partner of the LIVESTRONG Challenge series, Embassy Suites will once again sponsor the Cool Zone, a 10-ft high water misting system that Challenge racers, runners and cyclists can cruise through after finishing their race and get a refreshing mist of cool water. Positioned at the finish line, the Cool Zone offers a place for Challenge participants to meet up with their fans celebrating their victory in the fight against cancer. Volunteers from Embassy Suites Hotels within each Challenge city will be on hand to pass out rally towels and encourage each and every finisher of the race. HealthMarkets became involved with the LAF after an employee attended the LIVESTRONG Summit and LIVESTRONG Challenge in 2006. This employee, a cancer survivor, inspired by his experience during the events, pledged to get his company more involved as a part of his personal action plan.

In early 2007, he set up a LAF information table in the company's corporate campus for LIVESTRONG Day and had an opportunity to talk with the company's president and CEO. That informal point of contact led HealthMarkets to embrace the work that the LAF is doing and, later that year, they signed on as a local sponsor of the Austin LIVESTRONG Challenge. In 2008 they increased their support to a national level, sponsoring the LIVESTRONG Challenge in Portland, San Jose, Philly and Austin.

Not only does HealthMarkets support the LAF financially through their sponsorship, they recently implemented a distribution program that provides LAF information and LIVESTRONG Survivorship notebooks to their insured and have been diagnosed with cancer. In 2008, the company anticipates mailing materials to 3000 cancer patients.
